Product Description

Sweetie Pie is a new thornless blackberry cultivar released by the USDA which is not only resistant to common Blackberry diseases but is now considered the sweetest most delicious tasting blackberry available. ‘Sweetie Pie’ was selected at Poplarville, Mississippi in 1996. It was subsequently propagated and tested at McNeill, Mississippi, as well as in trial plantings in Louisiana and Arkansas. ‘Sweetie Pie’ grows vigorously and produces numerous floricanes, which are thornless and have a trailing growth habit. ‘Sweetie Pie’ is resistant to Rosette disease (double blossom), one of the most limiting factors in growing blackberries in the southern United States. It's berries are medium size, glossy, black, and with have excellent flavor due to high soluble solids content. ‘Sweetie Pie’ lacks sufficient firmness for use as commercial cultivar, but its outstanding flavor and high sugar content make it a desirable cultivar for homeowners and U-Pick operations. ‘Sweetie Pie’ ripens mid-late season (mid June–late July in South MS) and can be propagated easily from softwood and root cuttings. ‘Sweetie Pie’ grows well in raised beds having a pH of 6.0 – 7.0 that are amended with organic matter. How to Grow Most all edible plants grow well in Full Sun, a little shade won’t hurt. Blackberry Plants can be planted in most healthy soils with normal pH to lower pH range 6-8. I recommend growing in a organic potting soil with fertilizer already added for your starter plant and then mix up your favorite type of medium when ready to be fully planted. Let your soil almost completely dry out then water 2-3 times a week when temperatures are below 80 degrees. When temperatures are above 80 degrees water daily to every other day.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL PLANTS!
Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2023
These were about 2” tall when they arrived in early July. It’s now August 29, and you can see how they’ve grown. I was out of town for 2 weeks during the hottest part of summer, very little rain, and they still grew very well. I haven’t gotten blackberries yet, but I’m sure they will be wonderful. I did buy the recommended soil with the plants. After less than 2 months, one plant is 2 feet tall. I cannot wait to see the berries! I’ll post another photo when I have berries.
5 Stars!!

5.0 out of 5 stars These came in the mailbox not to the porch, heads up.
Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2023
These are tiny, beautiful, healthy plants. Exactly as promised! 5/5 stars on the condition of the plats!
The only thing was that I missed the part that said expect these in the mailbox. I thought they hadn’t been delivered because the blueberry plants I bought were delivered to the porch. I contacted the seller, they responded quickly…check for them in the mail, they were there and still healthy. 5/5 stars on the quick responsiveness of the seller when I thought there was a problem!
No real issues at all!
Eventually I will rate the fruit, and I will definitely buy from this store again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Blackberry Plants
Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2022
I bought these plants six years ago and planted and mulched them (in November). Two of the plants survived in eastern Washington, where we get very cold (down to -29°) winters and extremely hot (up to 110°) summer temps. We only have a four month growing season, but in spite of this, for several years now I've been getting massive yields of wonderful, big, sweet blackberries every year. With no thorns, they are easy to pick. My two bushes are sending out branches up to 15 or more feet in length and they are loaded with blossoms and berries. The 11 pints of ripe berries shown are from one day's harvest and I only picked about half of the ones that were ripe; there's at least triple that many berries yet to ripen.
